Algoma School District Instrumental Music Opportunities

Elementary School
5th Grade Band

5th Grade Band is open to all 5th grade students at Algoma Elementary School, St. Mary’s School, St. Paul’s School, Wings of Eagles, and Home Schooled students. Students rehearse in a large group on Mondays and Wednesdays. Tuesday and Thursdays are used to teach group lessons.

Typically students attend summer lessons to explore their new instruments.

Performances: Winter Concert, Spring Concert, Band-O-Rama, Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

Room 115, Algoma Elementary School 10:55am-11:30am

6th Grade Band

6th Grade Band is open to all 6th grade students at Algoma Elementary School, St. Mary’s School, St. Paul’s School, Wings of Eagles, and Home Schooled students. Students rehearse in a large group on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Tuesday and Thursdays are used to teach individual lessons.

Performances: Winter Concert, Spring Concert, Band-O-Rama, Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

Middle School
7th Grade Band

7th Grade Band is open to all 7th grade students atAlgoma Middle School, St. Mary’s School, St. Paul’s School, Wings of Eagles, and Home Schooled students. Students ‘should’ have experience playing an instrument to join band but exceptions are granted for those eager to learn! Students rehearse in a large group on Mondays, Wednesdays, and rotating Fridays. Lessons are optional and can be scheduled before or after school.

Performances: Veterans Day, Winter Concert, Spring Concert, Solo Ensemble (optional), Band-O-Rama, Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony

8th Grade Band

8th Grade Band is open to all 8th grade students at Algoma Middle School, St. Mary’s School, St. Paul’s School, Wings of Eagles, and Home Schooled students. Students ‘should’ have experience playing an instrument to join band but exceptions are granted for those eager to learn! Students rehearse in a large group on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and rotating Fridays. Lessons are optional and can be scheduled before or after school.

NEW for 2015-16

Advanced Middle School Band

7th & 8th Grade students are able to sign up for a semester long class that focuses on advanced performing! Students will be encouraged to learn solo ensemble literature and create small groups that can perform for events.

Performances: Community Out-Reach, Solo Ensemble

Concert Band
Concert Band is open to all high school students at Algoma High School, Wings of Eagles, and Home Schooled students.  Students ‘should’ have experience playing an instrument to join band but exceptions are granted for those eager to learn! Students rehearse in a large group daily. Lessons are optional and can be scheduled before or after school.

Performances: Volleyball Games, Football Games (stands only), Homecoming Parade, Veterans Day, Winter Dinner Concert, Basketball Games, Spring Concert, Solo Ensemble (optional), Band-O-Rama, Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony, Graduation

The Algoma High School Concert Band meets daily in Room 121 from 11:43am-12:35pm.

Wind Ensemble
Wind Ensemble is open to juniors, seniors, and advanced underclassmen at Algoma High School, Wings of Eagles, and Home Schooled students. Students rehearse in a large group daily. Lessons are optional and can be scheduled before or after school.

Performances: Volleyball Games, Football Games (stands only), Homecoming Parade, Veterans Day, Winter Dinner Concert, Basketball Games, Spring Concert, Solo Ensemble, Band-O-Rama, Memorial Day Parade & Ceremony, Graduation

The Algoma High School Wind Ensemble meets daily in Room 121 from 7:55am-8:47am.

Pep Band
The Algoma High School Pep Band is a combination of students in the Concert Band and Wind Ensemble.  The Pep Band plays at AHS athletic events.

Jazz Band
Jazz Band is open to students who play Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Bari Saxophone, Trumpet, Trombone, Bass Guitar, Electric Guitar, Piano, and Drum Set. This group rehearses Thursdays mornings before school.

Performances: Winter Dinner Concert, Community Out-Reach (Winter/Spring/Summer)

The Algoma High School Jazz Band meets in Thursdays in Room 121 from 7:20am-7:50am.

NEW for 2015-16

Drumline
The drumline has brand new equipment! We plan to start a drumline that can perform and march. This group will rehearse on Wednesday mornings before school and is open to ANY student interested in playing battery percussion.

Performances: Homecoming Parade, Half-time at Sporting Events, Summer parades

The Algoma High School Drum Line meets on Wednesdays in Room 121 from 7:20am-7:50am.

TRAVEL
As part of the overall experience of being a musician in the Algoma High School Band program, students are given the opportunity to appreciate the music and culture the world has to offer by traveling.  Along with the Algoma High School Choir, the group mixes performances in front of an expanded audience with attending other concerts, plays and visiting area landmarks for a truly well-balanced adventure.

Trips are optional and cost $750-$850 per student. Travel plans are based on the school’s academic calendar. Students must be passing all classes at the time of trip and must be enrolled in band OR choir to travel. Fundraising opportunities are given throughout each school year.
