Algoma choirs are open to any Algoma School District Student in grades 6-12, (and sometimes grade 5 depending on class size and interest). Our choirs are meant to provide a place for students to make music and friendships. We are ambassadors of good will to our community and seek to represent our school in a positive, uplifting way.
A choir student can expect to work each day on establishing or improving healthy vocal technique, sight-reading skills using solfeggio, and singing quality literature of various styles. We seek to sing music at a high level and try to choose music that represents the finest literature available for our developing voices and skills to sing.
Each year we try to find opportunities to learn and share outside of our class room. We perform for community groups, sporting events, and of course we perform concerts. Sometimes we collaborate with other schools. Nearly every year our high school choir travels to nearby universities to learn and perform. Every other year our high school choir travels with the Algoma Bands to exciting places such as New York City, New Orleans, Orlando to name a few.
Each year many choir students participate in our annual school musical. It’s not required, but participation is encouraged. Solo and Ensemble, and state honors choirs are also great opportunities to learn and grow as musicians.
Algoma choirs are a growing part of the great culture of the Algoma School District. We welcome new students to join us. Don’t worry if you don’t think you can sing, we’re all learning together. One thing is certain, no matter when or where we sing, we are always singing our best and sharing our best. If you can do that, you can be successful in one of Algoma’s choirs.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
